What is CBG?

It’s a little like rafting on a river of rejuvenation.

By now, cannabinoids like CBD and their effects might seem like old news. But did you know that there are over 120 identified cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis plants, each with their own benefits and experiences?

More than 60% of U.S. adults have tried cannabidiol (CBD). However, CBD is no longer the only

cannabinoid rising in popularity. Cannabigerol (CBG) is becoming increasingly common, now appearing in conjunction with CBD in many products (AAMC).

Let’s talk about CBG.

CBG (Cannabigerol) is a cannabinoid, a compound found in the Cannabis plant, just like CBD. While it comes from a cannabis or hemp plant, it varies

largely from its cannabinoid cousin, CBD. As young cannabis plants mature and begin budding, several enzymes and compounds combine to create the precursor to CBG: an “early-phase” cannabinoid called CBGA (cannabigerolic acid). CBGA is where all cannabinoids begin. This is why CBG is often referred to as “the mother of all cannabinoids.”

When isolated, CBG demonstrates benefits to the human body such as rejuvenation and mood

improvement (NIH).

Like CBD, CBG will not provide a “high” such as THC does.

Research shows that this cannabinoid can bind to both CB1 and CB2 receptors within the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is made up of molecules and receptors in our bodies that handle keeping our bodies in an optimal state regardless of what is going on in our external environment (MDPI). The human body’s endocannabinoid system keeps the body in a balanced state of homeostasis via innumerable receptors including CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are found in the nervous system and brain, while CB2 receptors are in the immune system and other areas of the body.

CBG is lauded by consumers for its reported restorative and rejuvenating effects and is perfect for maintaining balance between body and mind.

CBG may offer powerful effects without the ‘high’ that comes with THC or other cannabinoids.

Instead CBG is thought to work behind the scenes in your body and has been found to support some of the body’s essential functions for optimal health (NIH).

CBD + CBG work together much like all cannabinoids do, by creating a synergistic effect.

The restorative effects of CBG in combination with CBD may provide greater relaxation than CBD alone, as well as provide a balanced boost.
